The planning committee of the 3rd annual Street Medicine of Michigan Symposium (SMMS) is pleased to extend an open invitation for presentation proposal submissions.
Workshop (55 minutes):
This format is well-suited for highly interactive sharing of practical knowledge, skills, and personal/professional/organizational enrichment strategies. This format may include a brief didactic portion to introduce the topic or case, but the majority of the session should be spent in group interaction and discussion. Methods for creating an interactive learning environment must be addressed in the proposal.
Small-group problem solving session (55 minutes):
In this format, presenters will facilitate interactive discussions that engage participants in discussion and offer solutions for each other’s challenges related to a specific street medicine topic. Proposals may include scenarios that will be presented to the group for discussion and/or elicit challenges from participants related to the topic. The use of PowerPoint (outside of introductory slides) is heavily discouraged in this activity.
Lecture brief (25 minutes):
This format is ideal for the dissemination of new/updated information relating to the field of Street Medicine, review of clinically-pertinent innovations and best practices, and reporting of outcomes data from field research or interventions. Research-oriented submissions may be work in progress. We encourage presenters to allow at least 5 minutes of their time for audience questions and discussion.
Lecture extended (55 minutes):
This format is ideal for the dissemination of new/updated information relating to the field of Street Medicine, review of clinically-pertinent innovations and best practices, and reporting of outcomes data from field research or interventions. Research-oriented submissions may be work in progress. We encourage presenters to allow at least 10 minutes of their time for audience questions and discussion.
Panel (55 minutes):
This format involves assembling several experts in a topic area, with a moderator directing questions to the panel participants. An ideal panel will include at least 3 panelists with varying perspectives on the topic.
Poster: This format is well-suited to clinical vignettes, highlighting program development/updates, description of service models, research on Street Medicine or unsheltered/rough-sleeping people, or exhibition of medical education approaches to service learning and outreach.
